BEAUTY AND GOD'S HANDWRITING

BEAUTY AND GOD’S HANDWRITING - Many of us have developed a greater appreciation for beauty, especially natural beauty and what Ralph W. Emerson calls “God’s handwriting,” these past five months.  We have found that natural beauty is good for the troubled soul. When I was in seminary, professors talked about “special revelation,” divine inspiration that came to Abraham, Moses, those who wrote the books of the Bible, and so on, and “natural revelation,” what can be learned about God from observation of the natural world.  The Apostle Paul speaks of natural revelation in Romans where he says, “Ever since God created the world, his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and his divine nature, have been clearly seen; they are perceived in the things that God has made” (Romans 1:20 GNT). So, when life and the challenges of the current situation start to get you down, go outdoors and focus upon natural beauty – a flower, tree, bird, butterfly, sunrise or sunset – and let yourself be uplifted.  Let “God’s handwriting” inspire you.
