MEDICINE OF HOPE

MEDICINE OF HOPE - In his play, “Measure for Measure,” William Shakespeare observes, “The miserable have no other medicine but only hope.” As I recently noted in my Sunday meditation, sometimes hope is the last thing suffering people have to hold onto.  The season of Advent is that four-week, pre-Christmas season of the year that reminds of the importance of hope and also bids us renew our active hope for a better world in which peace, love, and joy are made more real and perfect for everyone. As we seek to renew our own hope, let us also try to find ways to bring hope to others, especially those who are suffering so much hurt during these difficult times.  If we can do nothing else, we can contribute to a local food pantry or regional food bank, as food security is one of the most pressing needs of our day and one of the most tangible ways to share some much-needed hope.
