ON RELIGION AND MYSTERY

ON RELIGION AND MYSTERY - One of the words that can be used in discussing religion is mystery.  I once saw a diagram of two slightly-overlapping circles, and written inside one was “Science” and inside the other was “Religion.”  The import was that science deals with facts and evidence, whereas much of religion deals with “holy mystery.”

When it comes to religious beliefs and the Sacred, there is a lot that cannot be proved by facts and observable data.  Much of religious life is based upon faith and unseen experience.  Early in my religious life I was much concerned with the truth, knowledge and absolutes.  The older I get, the more comfortable I am with not having all the answers and “holy mystery.”
