REAPING WHAT IS SOWN

REAPING WHAT IS SOWN - The proverb, “you reap what you sow,” must be true, since it was uttered by so many great minds – Job, the editor of Proverbs, the Apostle Paul, and the poet Rumi who said, “Whatever you have sown, you reap the same.”  Jesus alluded to the proverb in the Parable of the Sower in a reversal of sorts when he emphasized the importance of receiving the good that is offered. Most often the proverb is quoted in a negative context – if you sow bad things, you eventually will reap a bad return.  Karma.  But a positive outcome is another possibility – If we are faithful in sowing good, eventually good should return to us, as the Book of Proverbs reminds us, “The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life” (11:30 NLT).  Such is a theme I have been emphasizing of late: let us continue to be faithful in sowing good in a world so desperately in need of good results.
